Hey guys - as the subject line says, I've been busy adding all the updates to everything.

As sponsors, please welcome:
chazjazz, who'll be taking on Best Comedy and Best Future Fic
lil_banik_slave, who'll be taking on Best Romance: Scorpius/Braca and Best Characterization: Braca
BetanSurvey, who wil be taking on Best Crossover

Also, lady_callie has agreed to take on Best Smut as well as Best Drama

Finally, The Society Against Cruelty to Crichton is returning as a sponsor this year, but have given up the categories they held last year in favour of Best Action/Adventure and Best Characterizarion: John

All categories without sponsors are still open and available - nothing is being held in reserve anymore. List of categories and sponsors is HERE.

We're still accepting sponsors untill Dec 22, 2006. (Hint hint frelling hint)

Moving on, the FAQ has undergone massive updates - PLEASE GO READ IT

Finally, the rules are I think in thier final form, me having done (what had better bloody be) the last bit of tweaking to how sponsors and the first round of voting are being handled - please go read that too.

Thanks all, and please please PLEASE let us know how we're doing - questoins, commentaries, ANYTHING - and pimp us to your heart's content.

-Liza.

I might be willing to sponsor something, although if I do, I'm going to have to figure out a way to make it through the rules without my eyes glazing over, because they seem kind of complicated. :)

Something like "best characterization: Stark" would seem obvious, but I'm wondering... I'd have a number of fics that would be eligible in a category like that, and it seems like it'd be kind of a conflict of interest.

It's less complicated than it seems - I just wrote it as explicitly as possible. I have a background in legalese - I tend towards making stuff as loophole-free as possible. Since my husband and I just spent a year writing an RPG book we're now trying to get published - I think it's a good trait to have. :)

Would it help if I e-mailed you your own personal .doc copy ou can peruse at your lesure?

I do understand - we had someone pull out of sponsoring best AU for just those reasons. However - the actual amount of conflict of intrest is fairly low - sponsors, while responsible for ensuring the nominations qualify, don't really have all that much say over the outcome. It's the number of nominations and votes a particular And theoretically, a sponsor could veto somethingon scurrilous grounds - but really, vetos of nominations are only supposed to occur when something is BLATENTLY in violation of the category - in this category's case, something in which Stark didn't appear at all, or had one scene in which he pretty much served as scenery or faceless expotition.

In the end, it comes down to whether you feel comfortable with a category. If you want to find a co-sponsor, someone who you feel can "ride herd" on you, that's welcome too.

Nah, it's no trouble to read it from here. What I need is more of a case of making my brain wake up, anyway. :)

OK. Let me think about it and get back to you... Maybe I'll do something I have slightly fewer eligible stories in instead, just to make myself feel better. :)

I was thinking last night and I wanted to shout this idea out to you and Kaz. What about a "holiday fic" category? A lot of the holiday fics I've read don't really fit drama or romance; they're sort of thier own branch. just a thought...

Arrgh, I forgot to respond to this.

I think it might work, but our policy on new categories is that we're only adding them if someone is willing to sponsor them.

Also - I'd really like as firm and clear a definition of "holiday fic" as possible - all holidays? Just Christmas? What are the essential elements of a holiday fic and what unites them AS A CATEGORY, and what sets them apart as individual fics from comedies or romances or fillers or whatever else they might qualify as?

LOL! I was just about email you when I saw your reply. I would define "holiday fic" as any story that deals with an Earth holiday as the main plot of the story. Examples: shopping for a christmas tree, going Trick or Treating, planning a thanksgiving meal, going easter egg hunting. A fic set during "Terra Firma" may or may not fall into those guidelines. I would say, for the most part (there are always exceptions *sigh*) most of the "holiday fics" that I've read are happy fics, as most holidays are meant to be a joyous occasion.

Again that's just how I'd define it. I don't know if that helps you at all.

My other question is: what FAQ info should I put in my nomination LJ (http://community.livejournal.com/frellmedeadfic/profile) ? Just the basic rules and FAQ or is there something in particular that you and Kaz want included?

Sorry to pester you right before the holiday!

Gah another question: are we as sponsors allowed to answer questions about the eligibility of a fic, if asked? I'm assuming this is a obvious yes, but you know, assuming makes an ass out of u and me. Hehe.

Nah, that'll do.

Yes you are, for sure, just make sure your answer is the same as our answer - eligibility for a category is covered in the FAQ and rules. If there's anything you're not ure about, check with us.
